Maintenance

Routine checkups should be included in your pool maintenance schedule to keep your pool water looking beautiful and clear. Aiken Swimming Pool Company provides free water testing to determine which chemicals are needed to keep your pool water properly balanced and crystal clear. Proper pool maintenance includes frequent poolside testing of your pool and spa water.  This is your first line of defense in preventing common problems and protecting your family and pool or spa. Be sure to contact Aiken Swimming Pool Company if you have any questions or concerns regarding your pool maintenance schedule.

Once-a-Week for a vinyl or gunite standard chlorine pool
Backwash & rinse filter.  Empty skimmer baskets.  Empty the Polaris bag and clean the screen strainer on the disconnect fitting that plugs into the wall.  Remember to empty the pump basket (by motor) as well.  Remember to always turn the multiport valve clockwise and to have the pump shut off before switching between filter modes.

Test pH, Alkalinity and chlorine using your chlorine test strips.
Normal levels should be maintained as:
                pH              7.2 - 7.8
                Chlorine     1ppm - 3ppm
                Alkalinity    80ppm - 120ppm

Shock the pool with appropriate amount of granular chlorine.  Predissolve the chlorine one pound at a time before adding to the water.  Recommend adding 2 ounces granular chlorine per 1000 gallons.  eg. 1 1/4 lb per 10,000 gallons.

Put new chlorine skimmer sticks or tablets into the skimmer.

It is important to keep in mind that for every 10 degrees your pool water increases, your chlorine demand doubles.  e.g. chlorine demand of 1 lb. at 70 degree water temperature increases to 2 lb. at 80 degree water temperature.   During hot weather and periods of heavy rain, it is recommended you check your water chemistry more frequently and treat accordingly.  Keep this fact in mind during the pool season and you will avoid that 'green' pool event we all dread.

To raise you pH & Alkalinity, use an appropriate amount of Alkalinity plus.  This will raise both pH & Alkalinity.  Follow the table on your container for the proper amount for your size pool.

To lower pH, use pH decreaser.  Follow the directions on your container for the proper amount.

Add an appropriate amount of algaecide directly into your pool.  Recommend adding 2-4 fl. oz per 10,000 gallons.

Add an appropriate amount of SeaKlear directly into your pool.  Recommend adding 1 fl. oz per 6,000 gallons.

Remember to always have your pool pump running when adding chemicals to your pool.

You should be running your pool filter system at least 8-12 hrs/day.  Run it 24/7 if you experience cloudy water conditions which will require backwashing more frequently.

Bring Aiken Swimming Pool Company a water sample at least monthly for us to check.  You may bring water samples as frequently as you wish.  Our water testing is always a complimentary service we provide.

Also, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.  We will gladly help you.
